August 15, 2005

BLOOMINGTON, IN – Ivy Tech Community College-Bloomington is now offering several new general education courses for the fall semester. In Introduction to Music Theory (course number HUM 117), students will learn fundamental music terminology, notation, and structure emphasizing the practical learning of basic music skills. Topics covered include rhythm, melody, intervals, major and minor keys, scales, triads, harmony, texture, form and the piano keyboard. Sight singing and listening skills will be developed through examples drawn from a wide variety of musical styles. This course is equivalent to Z111 at Indiana University’s School of Music.

Another new course, English Literature and Life (course number ENG 210), was developed to provide students with avenues for continued study in English, beyond the gamut of composition courses all ready offered at Ivy Tech-Bloomington. This introductory literature course covers a selection of American and English literature relating to a specific cultural problem or theme. ENG 210 articulates with Indiana University’s L208 (Topics in English and American Literature and Culture.)
