Bloomington, Indiana. The Ivy Tech Community College Board of Trustees gave approval to Ivy Tech-Bloomington to offer an Associate of Science degree in Kinesiology today. The proposal will now go to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education for final approval. Ivy Tech-Bloomington is the only Ivy Tech institution to offer an associate degree in Kinesiology.
Ivy Tech students now have the option of obtaining an Associate of Science degree in Kinesiology. Students can focus on one of three programs-Sports Marketing, Fitness and Exercise Science. The degree transfers to Indiana University's School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
Jim Smith, Ivy Tech Community College - Bloomington Dean of Academic Services, said, "We are pleased that the Board of Trustees have approved this unique program in the Ivy Tech system. The Kinesiology program is part of our growing partnership with IU-Bloomington and another opportunity to ensure that students can either work in positions in fitness leadership, sports management, wellness promotion, and corporate wellness or transfer their degree to the Department of Kinesiology in the HPER department at IU."
The two-year Associate of Science Degree will require the successful completion of 39 credit hours in general education and 21 credit hours in technical courses.
