Ivy Tech celebrates rice as part of 'A Diversity Experience'

Ivy Tech Community College-Bloomington will celebrate diversity by exposing students to the rich culture within the Bloomington community and beyond, during this year’s “A Diversity Experience” event, Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Ivy Tech Hoosier-Times Student Commons. The event is free and open to the public.

The event will feature a performance from Indiana University East Asian Studies, demonstrating traditional martial arts. The Ivy Tech Culinary Arts division will provide an ethnic cooking demonstration. There will be cheese quesadillas, Spanish rice, Asian rice and Louisiana dirty rice — the idea being that rice is a common food among many cultures. There will also be cultural booths which display history, heritage, arts and crafts, and geography of the respective organizations.

Representatives from each of the 30 groups, including the Baha’i Faith, Ivy Tech Disability Services, Native American Community Center of Bloomington and the Monroe County NAACP, will share information about their organizations.
