Ivy Tech first day of school draws thousands

By Nicole Brooks 331-4232

Ivy Tech Community College-Bloomington, and the sound of bagpipes, welcomed thousands of students to campus this morning, the first day of school.

In keeping with tradition, Chancellor John Whikehart ushered students into the building to the tune of a Highland bagpiper. Welcome week activities, including cook-outs, club and organization fairs and inflatable games, continue throughout the week for students. A full schedule of events can be found under the “Student Life” tab at

Classes and events are scheduled at both the main campus at Ind. 48 and Daniels Way, and at the school’s de facto second campus, on Liberty Drive.

The school has had double-digit enrollment growth every semester since 2004, and may again break enrollment records this fall, with 5,400 students expected to enroll.
