December 16, 2009

Ivy Tech Community College's Kay Leach has been honored for graduating 2,230 nurses with a $10,000 scholarship check in her name.

Ivy Tech State Trustee Lee Marchant presented the money for the Celinda Kay Leach LPN Endowed Scholarship during a nurse pinning ceremony earlier this month on the Bloomington campus.

Leach, Ivy Tech's Department Chair of Health Sciences, began her career with Ivy Tech in 1971 as an instructor and was appointed program chair in 1987. She was appointed by both Governors Bayh and O'Bannon to the Indiana State Board of Nursing and served as president, stated an Ivy Tech news release.

Leach's nursing program has a 100 percent job placement rate for graduates going into the field of nursing, according to the community college. She has a more than 95 percent pass rate for State Board Exams since the start of the program, and has a 100 percent pass rate for the 2008 State Board Exams, the most recent year for which figures are available.

Marchant and his wife Annie presented the scholarship money during the 86th Nurse Pinning Ceremony on Dec. 4.
