Ivy Tech honors veterans with raising of the flag tomorrow morning

November 10, 2009

Bloomington, Ind. Ivy Tech Community College will honor veterans and their families on the main campus tomorrow as part of the college’s Mission Graduation initiative. Mission Graduation is a program designed by the Ivy Tech Bloomington campus to address the challenges associated with transition from military service to being actively engaged in the college experience at Ivy Tech.

The raising of the flag and presentation of the colors will begin at 9:20 a.m. at the front entrance of the main campus at 200 Daniels Way. Ivy Tech will also recognize veterans, active military, and their families at Noon in Lamkin Hall. Following the recognition event, at 12:45 p.m., there will be an opportunity to talk with veterans.

Veteran’s Day events at Ivy Tech will also include light refreshments, a military exhibit and a map display.

The number of U.S. Military veterans and family members enrolled at Ivy Tech’s Bloomington campus has increased significantly in the past two years, at an increase of more than 130%.

With the help of a $15,000 grant award from the Military Family Research Institute, Ivy Tech has been able to serve its military-affiliated students with the formation of a student veteran organization and increased programming. The college has created a sustainable program, and one that focuses on the success of the individual student.
