And another thing ...
Ivy Tech deserves national volunteer award
June 18, 2010
Ivy Tech students and employees reported nearly 24,000 hours of community service in the 2009-10 academic year. More than 80 agencies benefitted in a six-county service area including Monroe, Morgan, Martin, Greene, Owen and Lawrence counties.
Students did everything from water testing to preparing tax returns for low income people. Some helped at the Owen County Humane Society another helped paint a room at Girls Inc.
In a dollar figure based on national volunteer averages the value of Ivy Tech’s volunteerism last year amounted to $425,000.
So Ivy Tech’s Bloomington campus richly deserves its most recent recognition: A listing on the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
