Ivy Tech raises its profile
June 20, 2010
Ivy Tech Bloomington is not just the westside campus for the state’s largest college. It’s that but also so much more.
The two-year college sat quietly for years in this area’s education back seat while the state’s largest four-year college, Indiana University, drove the car. IU is still driving, but Ivy Tech now rides shotgun, a welcome and highly visible presence in this region.
Its philosophy of community partnership addresses the everyday needs of the community. That’s exemplified by its College for Kids, which targets kids age 11 to 14, bringing them to its campus for instruction in such fun topics as rocketry. As with many of its outreach programs, this is in partnership with the Bloomington parks department.
Ivy Tech also is running a summer art series for kids from its newest location, the John Waldron Arts Center.
Leave a building empty for even a minute, it seems, and Ivy Tech will be educating us from it.
