Ivy Tech to provide free tax return prep
February 3, 2010
Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington is providing free tax preparation services for low-income households.
The service is made possible through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
Tax preparation help at Ivy Tech, 200 Daniels Way, will run Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays now through March 6, by appointment only.
Ivy Tech works in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service and the City of Bloomington’s Community and Family Resources to provide the free tax preparation and electronic filing of federal and Indiana tax returns.
VITA is a volunteer-based program staffed by students working under the guidance of Ivy Tech accounting faculty. Since 2004, Ivy Tech students have prepared more than 1,300 returns and generated federal refunds totaling more than $1.7 million, according to the college.
